In Madhya Pradesh, the ruling BJP has claimed that Congress workers under the garb of saffron activists may create "disturbance" during the day-long nationwide bandh today. "We have received credible information that some Congressmen under the garb of VHP, Shiv Sena and Bajrang Dal workers may create disturbance in major cities of the state to defame the ruling party," BJP state unit President Prabhat Jha told reporters.
While, Shiv Sena has extended its support to the bandh, its arch-rival Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has decided to stay away from joining the protests. The Republican Party of India (RPI) has also supported the bandh.
In Maharashtra, Home Minister RR Patil has warned political parties from taking law into their hands. "Observing bandh in a peaceful manner is everybody's right. However, those who violate the law during bandh will be dealt with strictly," Mr Patil said.
