New Delhi: In an attempt to tackle piracy, the government is planning to bring in a new anti-piracy law. The Indian Piracy Bill will be introduced in the Monsoon session of Parliament.
The Indian Piracy Bill, which is getting final touches by the Law Ministry, will empower the Navy to act against piracy anywhere in the world.
The new Bill will also allow Indian courts to prosecute pirates. Pirates, right now, are prosecuted by the Indian courts only under associated offences, not piracy.
