Plan panel concerned over slow progress of Bundelkhand package

Plan panel concerned over slow progress of Bundelkhand package
New Delhi: Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia has expressed concern over the slow progress and irregularities in the implementation of package for development of the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.

"Ahluwalia in his letter (to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati) on December 19 has said that the state was given Rs 3,605 crore as a part of Bundelkhand package and plans were supposed to be completed in three years, but implementation of package is still very slow," Chairman of the Media Campaign Committee of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Raj Babbar said.

The Plan panel, according to Babbar, had said that although 18 months had passed, only 25 per cent of the work has been completed.

By asking for more funds from the Centre, Babbar said Mayawati is trying to divert attention from the state's failure to implement the package.

The elections to the state assembly are due early next year.
