New Delhi:
The Prime Minister reportedly told the Minister of State for Railways, Mukul Roy, to visit the site of a major train accident in Assam. Given that more than 40 people were injured, the minister's presence would be a given, one would expect.
But this morning, Mr Roy, who is from the Trinamool Congress, told NDTV, "There is no need for me to go now." And so far, he has not left Kolkata. He also denied that he had received any message from the Prime Minister's Office.
Several coaches of a train derailed last night, triggered by an IED planted on the railway tracks about 80 kms from Guwahati. A new Adivasi group of militants is suspected to be responsible. Most of the passengers were pilgrims headed to Puri. Read: Puri-Guwahati train accident: Adivasi group planted explosives?
Yesterday was a day of horror for the Railways Ministry - the Kalka Mail headed to Delhi derailed near Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. 69 people were killed.
