New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed grief over the loss of lives due to cloudburst and heavy rains in Uttarakhand and hoped normalcy would return there at the earliest.
"I am grieved by the loss of lives caused due to cloudburst & heavy rain in parts of Uttarakhand. Condolences to bereaved families," he tweeted.
"My prayers are with those injured. I hope normalcy returns to the rain-affected areas at the earliest," PM Modi added.
Torrential rains and landslides hit Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh and Chamoli districts in the wee hours today, burying villages in sludge with many residents trapped under the debris.
At least 15 people were killed and several were missing.
