New Delhi:

Congress on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention in the Lok Sabha over the issue of Indo-Pak joint statement demonstrated government's tough stand on terror by Islamabad.

Party spokesman Manish Tewari said the Prime Minister, in his comprehensive speech, has pointed to the clear linkage between verifiable action by Pakistan against terror and the movement towards dialogue with it.

"This demonstrates government's position on tough action on terror stands reinforced," he said.

Party chief Sonia Gandhi's address to the meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party on Thursday is expected to make the party position clear in detail.

Congress had so far failed to support the Prime Minister on the issue and has indicated that it will openly back him only after his statement in Parliament.

It had earlier thrown the onus on Singh by noting that the party was confident about the Prime Minister setting at rest all apprehensions, speculation and doubts when he speaks in the Lok Sabha.
