PM Modi in Shillong
Shillong:
As a part of BJP government's North East outreach, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing a rally in Meghalya's capital Shillong on his government's achievements in two years in power and plans for development of the North Eastern region.
Here are the highlights of his speech:
- Meghalaya has a large number of football clubs and organisation.
- Perhaps you can organise competitive events and lead the way to the U17 World Cup.
- We know Cherapunji receives the highest rainfall in the world.
- Today another feather has been added to its cap. The Doppler radar at Cherapunji has been dedicated to the nation. I congratulate ISRO and IMD.
- The North East has faced several natural calamities in recent past due to rain and landslides. This weather radar system will enable better forecast for NE region. This will help minimise threat by extreme weather conditions.
- I met North East council o chief of governments and was appraised of development work.
- A lot is being done, much more needs to be done. My government has been proactively following the Act East policy.
- I consider the North East region the gateway to South East Asia.
