PM Modi Addresses Nation On 'Mann Ki Baat': Highlights

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' today.

Here are the highlights:

• Many times, due to encroachment, silting and blockade in water channels, reservoirs store far less water than their capacity
• In several villages, awareness about water conservation is seen
• By abandoning water-intensive crops, villagers of Hiware bazaar in Ahmednagar have done exemplary work in water conservation
• When the water table rises, the quality of water also improves. Clean drinking water means better health and stronger growth of economy
• Prospect of a good monsoon while bringing hope, also presents us with challenge to start movement for water conservation
• The news of a good monsoon has made several people happy
• We all will have to be change agents for cleaning of river Ganga. The Government is making numerous efforts
• In Madhya Pradesh's Gorwa, efforts of villagers to create farm ponds to raise ground water level increased farm output by 28%
• In Porbandar, the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi, we can see underground tanks in houses to store rain water
• Drip irrigation,sprinkler irrigation are highly effective.They not only help conserve water, but also save a lot of labour
• Now, our focus must shift from only schooling to learning
• Over 80% of 1 crore families met their gas providers & surrendered subsidy in writing
• I salute those 1 crore families who have forced politicians to think differently
