PM Modi at High Table in UN's Lunch for Heads of State

Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets US President Barack Obama in New York.

United Nations: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama were seated at the high table along with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the ritual Heads of State lunch in honour of the visiting dignitaries for the General Debate of the 70th General Assembly.

According to the "top table seating chart", PM Modi, US President Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin were seated at the circular table with host Mr Ban.

PM Modi was seated between Austrian President Heinz Fischer, and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. The lunch happened immediately after PM Modi met Obama at a crucial bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

Mr Ban was flanked by President Obama on his right and President Putin on his left. Russia is the current President of the UN Security Council.

The other dignitaries at the high table were Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, President of Chile Michelle Bachelet Jeria, Jordan's King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, Polish President Andrzej Duda, South Korean President Park Geun-hye and King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander and Qatar's Sheikh Tameem bin Hammed Al-thani.

The lunch was hosted by the Secretary General in the UN headquarters.

The menu included smoked trout and cucumber timbale, caramelised beef short ribs and spiced wild berry compote.
