Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the death of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej whom he described as "one of the tallest leaders" of the current times.
Adulyadej died today at the age of 88, ending a remarkable seven-decade reign as the world's longest ruling monarch who was seen as a unifying force in the deeply divided country.
"People of India and I join the people of Thailand in grieving the loss of one of the tallest leaders of our times, King Bhumibol Adulyadej," PM Modi tweeted.
"King Bhumibol Adulyadej or Rama 9, was widely revered by his people. My thoughts are with his countless well-wishers & family," he said in another tweet.
The king died at 3.52 pm (local time) at the Siriraj hospital, the palace said in a statement in Bangkok.
