Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the men in blue for their win against Pakistan and Bangladesh and conveyed his best wishes for the match against Australia tonight in his monthly radio address Mann ki Baat.
"India has recently registered two brilliant victories in World T20. I extend my wishes to both India and Australia for today's match," PM Modi said.
Inaugural T20 champion India will be facing ODI world champion Australia this evening in a match that will decide a berth in the semi-finals.
PM Modi also said he had some "good news" regarding football. "Many of you would know that next year, in 2017, India is going to host FIFA, in which 24 teams will participate."
"I see that our youth is enjoying football like EPL... the FIFA U-17 is a great opportunity," he said.
Pointing out that India had won several games, but her world ranking has fallen, he said the tournament will provide an opportunity to create good sporting infrastructure. "We'll spend on infrastructure for football to bring momentum to this sport," he said.
Declaring that India needs to think about the steps to be taken for its propagation, he sought suggestions to popularise the game in every corner of the country. "Our effort is now to take football in every nook and corner of this country," he added.
He also asked students not to waste time in the coming holiday season, exhorting them to pick up an activity and excel in it.
Why can't we use our energy to learn new things?" PM Modi said. "Try your hands in different things... if you love painting, then start doing it. If you have a talent, work towards it. Your confidence level will shoot up and inspire your friends around you."
