Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee today said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had "forgotten" his poll promise of bringing back black money, and his party should instead focus on bringing him back to the country from his frequent trips abroad.

"Where is the black money and where is the Rs 15 lakh in the account of every Indian?" Mr Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of state Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, demanded to know.

Addressing a rally in Kolkata, he said, "Narendra Modi had promised that he would bring back the black money stashed abroad. He has forgotten his poll promise. Now his party rather than bringing the black money should focus more on bringing him back from his frequent foreign trips."

The fast-rising Trinamool Congress leader lashed out at the BJP leadership for trying to "destroy" the communal fabric of the country and "dividing" the masses.

Mr Abhishek Banerjee also asserted that the combined opposition force of the BJP, CPI-M and Congress would not be able to defeat the Trinamool Congress in next year's Assembly poll.

He also took a swipe at a section of the media for spreading canard against the government.

"We have been voted to power by the people of Bengal and not by the media. The media may help the Opposition get oxygen ahead of polls, but it will not help them in the election," he said.
