New Delhi: The BJP today launched a National Membership Drive with Prime Minister Narendra Modi enrolling himself as the first member of the party at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. Party president Amit Shah was also present on the occasion.

"BJP has given me immense pride by offering this opportunity. It's a matter of pride to become a member of such a party. I'm going to be the first member... it is sone pe suhaga," Mr Modi said.

"Every six years, membership ends within the BJP. As soon as this drive starts, everyone will have to become a member again. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Assam to Gujarat, we want everyone to come together," Mr Shah said.

The drive, which will continue till March 31 2015, is aimed at enrolling four times the existing party workers in all states.

Talking about the party's membership drive, BJP National General Secretary JP Nadda had said on Friday, "Apart from the age-old method of filling up forms, we are also taking help of technology. There will be online registration as we will be launching an exhaustive campaign process."
