Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met the South Carolina Governor - Indian-American Nikki Haley, one of the stars of the Republican party - and discussed the areas of possible cooperation including investment opportunities in India.
Haley, who is the first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, told Mr Modi she was excited about the opportunities in India.
At the age of 42, Ms Haley is currently the youngest Governor in the US. She is one of two sitting Indian-American Governors - the other is Republican Bobby Jindal of Louisiana.
Ms Haley is also the third non-Euro-American person to have been elected the governor of a Southern state. The other two are Virginia's L Douglas Wilder and Louisiana's Jindal.
Mr Modi met Ms Haley hours before his speech at the Madison Square Garden.
