PM Modi's Ministers Will be Assigned Organisational Duties for Upcoming Assembly Elections

PM Modi's Ministers Will be Assigned Organisational Duties for Upcoming Assembly Elections
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met senior ministers and BJP's office bearers last evening.
New Delhi: Over dinner last night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed ministers from his party, the BJP, that they will have to work hard to ensure coordination between party and government. Each minister will be handed organisational duties for the assembly elections due this year.

The BJP, which posted a spectacular win the general elections, hopes to stretch the winning streak to state elections.

"Ministers are to be entrusted with organizational responsibilities in the coming round of assembly polls,'' Union Information and Broadcasting, and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters after the dinner hosted by the Prime Minister at the BJP's national headquarters.

He also said that to ensure better coordination between party and government, ministers would have to frequent the party office. Mr Modi has sought that at least one minister should be present at the BJP headquarters every day, ensuring that each minister visits at least once a month.

"Ministers will get a first-hand account of problems faced by party workers. They will be asked to address the grievances of these workers,'' BJP sources said, explaining the initiative. The previous Congress-led UPA government was often seen as lacking in such  coordination on important issues.

Assembly polls are scheduled to be held in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir later this year. In the BJP's assessment, Bihar too may be headed for snap polls, as the ruling Janata Dal (United) government has been reduced to a minority, and is being propped up by Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal, or the RJD, and the Congress.

The BJP and its allies are in a minority in the Rajya Sabha, and big wins in the Assembly elections will improve its numbers in the upper house.

All the poll-bound states are ruled by parties from the opposition camp. In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had pulled off an impressive performance in each of them.
