Chandigarh, Haryana: With 'Selfie with Daughter' initiative being termed as an international movement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his meeting with Silicon Valley CEOs in the US, the man behind the initiative said, that these words of praise will help the campaign.
Speaking before a gathering of Silicon Valley CEOs at San Jose today, PM Modi referred to the campaign as "an initiative by a father in Haryana to draw attention towards girl child" that "became an international movement..."
"PM praising the initiative on various platforms is definitely helping the entire campaign and the motive it aims to achieve... I had launched this initiative to give a boost to Prime Minister's pet initiative of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao," said Sunil Jaglan, the village head of Bibipur in Haryana, who had launched the campaign in June.
The village head wants to meet PM Modi and share his other initiatives with him.
The Bibipur village council in Jind district had recently launched 'Digital India with Laado', a campaign to replace names of family-heads in the nameplates with their daughter's moniker. They have so far managed to replace 50-60 name plates which bear the email id of daughters as well.
"I want this campaign to be taken up nationwide. I am writing to Prime Minister and Haryana Chief Minister also in this regard," said Mr Jaglan.
The post-graduate in Computer Science is also preparing a prayer against female foeticide, which he wants the school children, especially the younger ones, to recite during their morning- prayer sessions daily.
Mr Jaglan said, "We want a change in the mindset to be brought about in our thinking towards the girl child. This is possible if we start with kids. I will also send this prayer across to my state's Chief Minister and the PM and see how this initiative can be taken forward."
