PM monitors strike, says lockout not an option
New Delhi: The Prime Minister has told Air India's management that a lockout is not an option as the airline searches for ways to deal with its rebel pilots.

One hundred and eighty senior pilots called in sick today on Day 4 of their strike.  These pilots are non-unionized. They're protesting against slashed allowances, which the Management wants to introduce as a way of cutting costs. Air India loses Rs 10 crores everyday.

The Prime Minister was briefed in detail on the strike by the Civil Aviation Secretary, and Air India Chief Arvind Jadhav. He has told officials to minimize passenger inconvenience. Forty six flights have been cancelled today.

On Monday night, the PM spoke to Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel about the Air India crisis.   That conversation took place after reports emerged that the airline was going to cancel all flights for 2 weeks.  That move, seen as a lockdown, was quickly denied by Air India management.

Currently, the airline is not accepting any new bookings.
