PM must respond to court remarks: Advani

Sasaram/Patna: Senior BJP leader LK Advani today said it was for the first time Supreme Court had "raised fingers" against a prime minister and Manmohan Singh should come out in public with his response to its observations on 2G Spectrum allocation.

"It is for the first time in the history of free India that the apex court has raised fingers against a PM... Singh should publicly respond to its 2G Spectrum observations immediately," Advani told an election meeting here.

Stating that he had written a letter to Singh about the 2G Spectrum allocation eleven months ago, the BJP leader said his letter has not been responded to as yet.

Describing the 2G spectrum scam as "the biggest-ever corruption issue the country has ever witnessed", he said "we are surprised to see how a person like Raja is still not behind the bars despite his involvement in corruption of such a huge volume."

Earlier in Patna, Advani made a similar demand and said "we want a JPC probe into the issue in Parliament and the government should think on it".

The Supreme Court had yesterday asked embarrassing questions about the lengthy delay on the part of the prime minister in taking a decision on a plea for sanction of prosecution of the former telecom minister.

"Can the sanctioning authority (Prime Minister in this case) sit on the complaint," a bench of Justices GS Singhvi and A K Ganguly had asked during a hearing on a petition filed by Janata Party President and former Law Minister Subramaniam Swamy, who had sought sanction for prosecution of Raja.

In Sasaram meeting, Advani praised Nitish Kumar and said "an honest and good administrator is required to deliver good for the people."

Kumar had done a lot for Bihar and even enacted a new legislation to weed out corruption in public offices, he said, hoping if the JD (U) leader got another term, Bihar would become most developed state in the country in next five years.

"People should reward the person who has done a lot for the development of the state," he said.
