PM Narendra Modi Addresses A Public Gathering In Agra: Highlights

PM Narendra Modi said that around Rs 5 lakh crore have been deposited in accounts since currency ban.

Agra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a 'Parivartan rally' in Agra, spoke at length on demonetisation. He cautioned people holding Jan Dhan accounts not to allow themselves to be used for laundering the money of the rich by depositing their ill-gotten wealth as they could unnecessarily get into problems with law.

Here are the highlights of his address:

  • I express my sympathies for the relatives of the victims of the accident.
  • I am coming from the launch of two new programmes-Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin.
  • In 2022, when India will celebrate 75 years of independence, the poorest of Indians must have their own home.
  • We have created different models for each state and the homes are not just four walls or a box. They will be real houses.
  • Crores of houses need to be made and it will take thousands of masons.
  • And we have ran a large campaign to train youth as masons so that as homes are made and youths also find income, jobs.
  • Earlier, you never knew who MNREGA helped. Now we have said if a family builds their own home, it too will come under MNREGA.
  • These houses will have electricity and gas connections.
  • Today, I also launched 1,100 crore worth of rail projects.
  • This Government is dedicated to the poor, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was started so that the poor can have a bank account, Aadhaar so that they get what is their right.
  • We launched Ujjwala Yojana so that poor mothers do not breathe the smoke of wood and coal and instead get to cook with gas stoves.
  • In this country, 18,000 villages, even 70 years after independence, were living in the 18th century, without electricity
  • In 1,000 days we will bring them out darkness. Most of the villages were in Uttar Pradesh. 95 per cent work has been done.
  • I want to bow my head to the honest people in the country to free the country from corruption, black marketeers, black money.
  • They have supported my move.
  • But I am surprised, despite the hardships, they are working to free the country from black money, corruption.
  • Dalits, adivasi, farmers, mothers - everybody is facing hardships -it will not go to waste.
  • I had said that night That every 2-3 days I will review the system and will make changes as required.
  • Cities that had difficulty in collecting Rs 5 crore in bills started getting Rs 15 crore in payments. Who had not paid those bills? The middle class? No.
  • But those who were rich and powerful. They had to fall in line.
  • More than Rs 5 lakh crore has been deposited in banks.
  • Tell me does any poor or middle class person have black money? But, When a middle class person wants to buy a house. The seller wants Rs 3 lakh in cash. Then the poor guy has to turn his white money to black.
  • You have faced hassles due to this demonetisation. But some people have been punished much more severely.
  • That's why some people are raising voices against me. We all know under whose rule did chit fund scams took place. Today they are asking me questions?
  • Is it not the duty of the government to safeguard the interests of the poor?
  • The middle class will not be exploited, poor will get what is their right
  • The banks - which have collected Rs 5 lakh crore - will have to pump it back in the market.
And they will have to lower interest rates
  • You have seen how drugs are dealt in cash.
  • Fake currency worth crores have been funnelled into the country and with this drugs and terrorism has flourished. Should this be allowed? For 70 years it has been allowed.
  • Some people have lost everything.
  • People say, "You want to be an MLA? Bring so many notes then, you can".
  • They had hoarded notes. Whose were they? Of the poor and middle class.
  • But I did not do it to trouble anybody. Only to improve the future of the youth.
  • Some people are going around banks asking poor people to deposit Rs 2.5 lakh in Jan Dhan Accounts.
  • They say, later I will take Rs 2 lakh. You can keep Rs 50,000.
  • I urge these people. Please don't do this. Laws are so strict that you will be in trouble
They will deny the whole thing and you'll be in a soup.
