Terrorism is the 'Biggest Threat' to the World: PM Narendra Modi in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indians in Kuala Lumpur today on the second day of his visit to Malaysia.

  • We are prepared to work with the Malaysian govt to build a war memorial at Kampar in parak
  • While Malay Indians were responding with courage and passion to the call of Netaji, they were also inspired by the life and mission of Mahatma Gandhi
  • You have not met Gandhiji, he did not visit Malaysia, but he touched your hearts and you came together to build a memorial in his name
  • There are few things that can be as moving as these. A homage in silence, expressed in action and built into living memorial
  • And it is my privilege that we will install bust of Gandhi ji's at Gandhi Memorial hall
  • In 2001, when earthquake hit Gujarat many Indians here came together to raise funds to help victims
  • You always have a special place in our thoughts. The spirit of India speaks in your deeds
  • With every generation you have achieved more success in politics, government and services
  • You are the living bond of friendship between two nations
  • Today I had the honour of visiting Ramkrishna Mision and unveiling statue of Vivekananda
  • He spoke for Asian spirit that is needed today when we talk of Asian century
  • Malaysia's achievements are enormous.  Nation of 30 million people has much to be proud of
  • Nearly eradicated poverty, nearly 100 per cent literacy, jobs to everyone who needs it or wants it, tourism sector is flourishing, infrastructure is world class, very high on ease of doing business, growth rate over 6 per cent per year
  • One of the famous slogans is "Malaysia - Truly Asia" Malaysia Truly Lives up to that image
  • India was a nation made weaker by colonialism, torn by partition
  • Land of unparalleled diversity, vast political challenges, India is the proud nation of 1.25 billion people
  • 800 millionn youth under 35 years. Everyone has equal rights, courts protect everyone, Government defends
  • We are leading producer of food grains, milk
  • Scientists harnessing power of space to improve quality of life
  • Developing vaccines and drugs that puts healthcare within the reach of the poorest
  • Produce best IT specialists, doctors and engineers in the world
  • Indian armed forces contribute to regions security and stability
  • We have generations of our leaders for bringing us this far
  • But we have a long way to go. The challenges are evident in  villages and cities
  • My government has come into office to change that, we are eradicating poverty with universal access to banking insurance
  • We are empowering people with skills and education, we are creating infrastructure that gives people the basic needs
  • We are facilitating business and creating digital infrastructure, we are turning ports and airports to gateways of prosperity
  • We will restore rivers, transform villages. All this is not easy after all we are talking about 1.25 billion people
  • But we have faith in talent and enterprise of Indians. The wheels of change have begun to move and they are gathering speed and it is showing in  numbers.
  • India is the fastest growing major economy, I know, you feel proud of it
  • We are running at 7.5 per cent per year, but will grow faster in the coming years
  • Every major institution says India will grow strongly, even during a global slowdown
  • We are making government transparent and accountable, eliminating corruption at all levels
  • Making governance driven by policy not discretion of individuals
  • Central and state government work together, states compete with each other - that is healthy
  • We live in inter-connected world, we do not have look far to find friends
  • South East Asia one of the most dynamic regions in the world
  • India has excellent relation with all southeast Asian countries
  • Malaysia is one of our strongest partners and closest friends in the region.
  • Malaysian company excellent at infrastructure, their largest presence outside Malaysia is in India
  • There are over 150 Indian companies in Malaysia
  • Malaysia one of the biggest trade partners in ASEAN but we need to raise it further
  • One of our best partnership in traditional medicine is with Malaysia
  • IAF helped train their Malaysian counterparts. Our security agencies work together against terrorism
  • Terrorism is the biggest threat to the world today, knows no boundary, uses religion, kills people of all faith
  • We have to delink religion from terror, only distinction between those who believe in humanity and those who do not
  • We must cooperate to combat this. When I say world must come together, it also means no country should promote terrorism
  • We have to make sure Internet does not become a recruiting ground
  • Peace only foundation for a prosperous future. I will meet PM Najeeb tomorrow to take our relationship forward
