Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of noted Gandhian Narayanbhai Desai who died at a private hospital in Surat today.
"Narayanbhai Desai will be remembered as a scholarly personality who brought Gandhi ji closer to the masses. Sad to hear of his demise. Rest in Peace," the prime minister said in a statement issued in Delhi.
90--year-old Desai, son of Mahatma Gandhi's diarist Mahadev Desai, passed away in his sleep in the wee hours today at Mahavir Trauma Centre in Surat city, Desai's elder son Nachiketa Desai said.
Mr Desai imbibed Gandhian ideals of non-violence and truth from his father Mahadev Desai, who was the personal secretary and diarist of Mahatma Gandhi.
