PM Modi taking a picture at Myanmar before posting it on Instagram
Nay Pyi Taw:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today instagrammed a picture from Myanmar - where he is attending the ASEAN-India summit - and announced his debut on yet another social media platform with this message: "Hello World! Great being on Instagram. My first photo...this one from the ASEAN Summit."
In less than two hours, PM Modi had over 38,000 followers on Instagram, an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service.
The prime minister, dressed in a dark jacket, was seen taking the picture of the giant ASEAN billboard at the Myanmar International Convention Centre. He posted the picture of himself with the caption: "At the Summit...captured a glimpse of the venue."
The 64-year-old is among India's most social media savvy politicians and has close to eight million followers on Twitter. His online outreach was considered a significant part of the national election campaign that brought him and his party, the BJP, to power.
Since he took charge in May, PM Modi has regularly posted updates and pictures on Twitter of his foreign visits - he is currently on his third major tour - and of visiting dignitaries.
He has also encouraged his ministers and officials to become more tech savvy.
Instagram allows its users to share pictures and videos on social networking platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.
