Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the Baglihar Power Project today in Srinagar.This is the PM's first visit to the state after the PDP-BJP coalition came to power.
Here are highlights of his speech:- India has set a huge goal for solar energy - 175 GW
- We have a dream. When India celebrates 75th independence anniversary, all villages should have 24-hour power supply
- I personally monitor this project.
- Today, almost 70 years after independence, there are 18,000 villages where electric poles are yet to be set
- So I have set a goal. In 1,000 days electricity will need to reach all 18,000 villages
- Our age is a technology driven age, but there are villages where you have a cellphone, but for charging that phone you have to go to the next village
- From coal and gas you can get electricity, but renewable electricity is our focus
- Today I have announced Rs 80,000 crore package for Jammu and Kashmir.
- There are provisions for major solar electricity initiative in Leh and Ladakh
- We have also launched a programme called 'Bijli Bachao'
- The government is giving you cheap LED bulbs, civic bodies are being encouraged to use LEDs for street lights
- If you use an LED instead of bulb or tubelight, each family will save Rs 50-100
- We are working on Swachh Bharat Mission. How we can generate electricity from the waste of cities - that is being worked upon
- So to enter new avenues of development, electricity is critical
- This Rs 80,000 package is not a full stop. It's just the beginning. Rs 80,000 crore is a sample
- I dedicate New Delhi's treasury and its heart for the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
- Under the Mudra scheme, anyone can take bank loans. No guarantee for loans up to Rs 50,000. Around 60 lakh people have been given such loans.This bank is right there for you
- We launched another scheme for the youth - Start Up India, Stand Up India
