Prime Minister Narendra Modi today joined the BJP's campaigning trail in Assam with five election rallies in just few hours. He addressed a rally in Tinsukia first. The state will go to the polls in two phases on April 4 and 11 and the counting will be done on May 19.

Here are the highlights
  • Sarbananda Sonowal is one of the best ministers in my Cabinet. It will be a personal loss to me because he is going to be the next CM of Assam.
  • There is only one 'ananda' in Assam i.e. Sarbananda.
  • The Assam Chief Minister is very old. He says his fight is with Modi. I have a respect for him. My fight is not with (Tarun) Gogoi but poverty.
  • I have no fight with anyone. I seek blessings from Assam.
  • When we got the independence, Assam was in the list of top 5 developed states. Now, it is in the list of worst performing states. Who was responsible for this?
  • Please give me 5 years. Give Sarbananda Sonowal 5 years.
  • BJP and our allies will make Assam prosperous.
  • Assam is close to my heart as it your tea only that I sold during my childhood
  • People of Assam are very hardworking. You have huge water resources but still the people are thirsty.
  • Electricity is very important. Even after the 60 years of our independence, not even a single electricity pole reached a few places. Around 2,000 villages in Assam were without electricity.
  • We have sent funds for Assam's development. But everything is lying in the bank account.
  • I have 3 agenda for Assam - development, quick paced development and all-round development.
