New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojna or a Model Village Scheme, a rural development scheme to be undertaken by Members of Parliament.
If each Parliamentarian undertook the task of developing three villages each by 2019, said the Prime Minister at the event, nearly 2,500 villages will be covered.
"Let us take interest and create an atmosphere where every person is proud of his or her village," said the PM.
Mr Modi, who represents Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi in Parliament, said he will select a village in Varanasi area for the project
The scheme was meant for the poor, farmers and villagers, said the Prime Minister, adding that "The idea of this scheme is to develop villages every year. Schemes must be formulated in accordance with changing times".
"Welfare of the poor is our dream," said PM Modi.
