New Delhi: It was a tour of the Rashtrapati Bhavan today for Prime Minister Narendra Modi who visited the Presidential palace, an event which ended with a maiden one-to-one lunch with President Pranab Mukherjee.
This was the first luncheon meeting between the two leaders since Mr Modi took oath as Prime Minister on May 26 and came at a time when the government is planning to appoint new Governors and transfer others who had been appointed during UPA rule.
The Prime Minister was taken around Rashtrapati Bhavan by the President's Secretary Omita Paul.
PM Modi spent some time in the 'Cabinet Room' of the Palace where Ms Paul explained to him the historical significance of the place.
The Cabinet Room, where the interim government headed by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru used to meet, has huge world maps. Lord Mountbatten had his last meeting with Nehru, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, B R Ambedkar, Sardar Baldev Singh and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee before moving to Shimla for signing of the final Partition plan.
He later went to Ashoka Hall and Durbar Hall, the museum and the library before attending the lunch with the President.
