'India's Need of the Hour to Become Manufacturing Hub,' Says PM Modi in Berlin: Highlights

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the Indian Diaspora at a community reception in Berlin hosted by India's ambassador to Germany Vijay Gokhale. He stressed on India's need to become world's manufacturing hub and said that it is not just economic but a matter of pride and dignity.

Here are the highlights from his speech:

  • India was a part of the Hannover fair this time.
  • I went around and visited many stalls at the Hannover Fair with Madam Chancellor.
  • We are like Hercules in our own backyard but when we go out in the world, we know where we stand.
  • One technology can be used in various fields and Indians are an expert at this.
  • Our mothers and sisters make pizza, Chinese, Mexican dishes, even if they give it an Indian touch.
  • We are experts at giving our own touch to things.
  •  It is the demand of our times that India become a manufacturing hub to continue on the road to development
  • India was slave when Industrial Revolution took place. But when the IT revolution came, we were ready.
  • Our youth has astonished the world in IT revolution.
  • They are showing India the world through mouse and keyboard.
  • Even in Germany, Indians contribute a lot to the society.
  • These people can be a bridge not just between India and Germany but where we are and  where we want to reach as a nation.
  • We need to stress on agro-processing; need to get technology into the agriculture sector.
  • India needs balanced growth. We need to balance 3 things - agriculture, manufacturing and service sector.
  • Sikkim has become the first Indian state to be known for it's organic farming. Now the doors for global trade has been opened for the state.
  • What does India not have to offer to the world's service needs? India has the power to attract the whole world's service sector.
  • Tourism is a $3 trillion business worldwide but India gets a very small fraction of that trade.
  • Indian families staying abroad - can't they inspire 5 non-Indians to visit India?
  • There are no greater ambassadors of 'Incredible India' than you are.
  • India has everything that is needed to become the world's manufacturing hub. India has the youngest population in the world.
  • Even for crying Indians have to depend on imports - the tear gas shells used  in India are imported.
  • Making India a manufacturing hub isn't just an economic programme, it the matter of our pride.
  • Zero defect and zero effect, both are very important.
  • In 10 years, on an average 2 km road was added in India. In the past 10 months, that average has gone up to 11 km.
  • Indians treat nature as God... we should ask the world about climate change. We believe exploitation of nature is a crime.
  • Traditionally, reuse and recycle used to come naturally to us.
  • We're the lowest in per capita carbon emissions in the world but still we're being asked questions.
  • Reuse and recycle is in the DNA of Indians but now the world seem to give us lessons.
  • We have 1/6th of the world's population. If we do well, the world will be a better place.
