The legislation that has made education a fundamental right, the Right to Education Act will come into effect on April 1.
In an unusual move, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address the nation on Thursday on the historic legislation. This will be for the first time that a PM will address the nation on a specific law.
The Act provides for free and compulsory education for all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years as a Fundamental Right.
The UPA government has been dubbing the legislation as one of its biggest achievements along with the Right to Information Act.
