Wapi, Gujarat: A hotel owner from Udaipur who was convicted of raping a British journalist in December 2007, has been arrested by the police in Wapi, Gujarat. He was absconding after being released on bail.
A fast track court in Udaipur had sentenced the hotel owner to life imprisonment. The rape victim was one of his lady guests - a British tourist. The tourist had come to stay in Udaipur on December 19, 2007, on the night of December 23, she asked hotel owner Parbat Singh for a blanket. Parbat Singh used that as a pretext to force his way into the tourist's room and rape her.
After an email from the British Embassy, the Rajasthan Police completed the investigation of the case within 48 hours and registered a case before an Udaipur court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment and also fined him Rs 25000.
