Hyderabad: The Telangana police, in coordination with their counterparts from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal, are examining leads from the weekend encounter to try and track down the remaining three.
"We do not have any reports suggesting that there are any activities of SIMI in Hyderabad," said Telangana Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy today.
The two who were killed, Mohammed Aijajuddeen and Mohammad Aslam, had allegedly played a role in several crimes including a train blast last year in Chennai, in which one woman was killed and 14 were injured.
Last week, they allegedly opened fire on personnel checking vehicles in Nalgonda last week, killing a police constable and home guard personnel.
"They are also believed to have triggered an explosion in Pune last year, near the famous Dagdusheth Halwai," said Anurag Sharma, a senior police officer.
The police from five states are looking for three suspected members of banned terror outfit SIMI or Students Islamic Movement of India, who were part of a gang of escaped prisoners allegedly involved in crimes in various states.
Seven men, believed to be from SIMI, had allegedly escaped from a prison in Madhya Pradesh in 2013.
Two members of this group were killed on Saturday in Telangana's Nalgonda district. A third member was caught earlier and one more surrendered.
"We do not have any reports suggesting that there are any activities of SIMI in Hyderabad," said Telangana Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy today.
