Policeman Injured In Firing By Terrorists In Srinagar, Operation Going On

A policeman was injured in an attack by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar on Sunday. The firing occurred during a raid, police said.

Security forces have launched a cordon and search operation.

Police said that the injured personnel has been evacuated to a nearby hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Based on input about the presence of terrorists in the area, a small party of the Srinagar Police carried out a raid in the Jamalata area.

According to the police, as the team approached the spot where terrorists were suspected to be hiding they faced indiscriminate firing, resulting in injuries to one police personnel.

"Keeping in view the safety of the civilians and evening rush in the area the police team exercised maximum restraint," said police.

Earlier this week, a policeman was killed by terrorists in the city's Batmaloo area.

There have been series of targeted attacks in Srinagar and some parts of Kashmir in the last month. At least 11 civilians, mostly migrant workers and members of minority community, have been targeted.

In separate encounters, three terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir this week. One of them was a member of proscribed terror outfit Mujahideen Gazwatul Hind, who was assigned to carry out a "fidayeen" (suicide) attack in Srinagar. The other two were killed in an encounter in Kulgam.

The terrorist killed in Srinagar was a relative of one of the accused in the February 2019 suicide attack in Pulwama''s Lethpora, in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives.
