A policeman was killed after terrorists attacked a police post in the Shopian district of South Kashmir on Friday night.
Another policeman and a civilian were injured in the attack.
An unknown number of terrorists with guns fired at the police post and ran away.
The terrorists had come to snatch weapons from the post, senior police officer Javid Gillani said.
Over the last one month, terrorists have attacked several police posts in south Kashmir and escaped with at least 20 rifles.
Kashmir has been gripped by unrest and incidents of violence have increased in the valley since the killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani in July.
After over 11 weeks, a curfew imposed across Kashmir to curb clashes between protesters and security forces ended last month.
