Poonch:
One policeman was killed and another injured during an encounter with three terrorists in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
The encounter that started after police received information about the presence of heavily-armed terrorists in an under construction government building in the outskirts of Poonch city.
As the police laid a cordon around the building, they came under heavy firing resulting in the death of a policeman and injuries to a sub inspector of the police.
An elderly couple, who was held hostage by terrorists, was also rescued, Deputy Inspector General Rajouri-Poonch range, Johny Willian said.
The terrorists were holding Haji Nazir Mir and his wife Mumtaz Mir hostage.
Haji Nazir Mir is a cousin of the Congress lawmaker and Deputy chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council Jahangir Hussain Mir.
All terrorists were neutralised after an intense gunbattle that ended around 7:15 in the evening, police said.
In another encounter near the Line of Control in Nowgam Sector, in north Kashmir, the Army has killed four terrorists.
