New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is expected to leave an ayurvedic hospital in his home state of Kerala tomorrow.
Earlier this week, a murder case was registered into the death of his wife, Sunanda Pushkar. The Delhi Police has not named any suspect in the murder case, registered nearly a full year after Ms Pushkar, 51, was found dead in a five-star hotel in the capital after publicly accusing Mr Tharoor of having an extra-marital affair with a Pakistani journalist.
"He has come here for 14 days of treatment ... most probably he may be leaving from our place by tomorrow. And he has come basically for his treatment for his lifestyle problems like a frozen shoulder," said a top official at the ayurvedic hospital in Trichur where the Congressman is currently staying.
BS Bassi, the Delhi Police chief, has said that Mr Tharoor will be questioned soon along with others about Ms Pushkar's death, which for months was debated as a suicide. He has also dismissed allegations by Mr Tharoor of attempts by the Delhi cops to frame him for his wife's alleged murder.
A letter in which Mr Tharoor alleged that his domestic help was beaten up by policemen while being interrogated surfaced yesterday; it was sent via email to the Police Chief in November. Mr Tharoor wrote that his domestic help had been beaten to intimidate him into stating that he along with the politician had killed Ms Pushkar.
Mr Bassi said those allegations are baseless.
As an explanation for why a murder case has been lodged an entire year after Ms Puhkar's death, the police chief cited new facts in the latest medical report submitted by doctors at Delhi's AIIMS hospital, where the post-mortem was conducted. He did not elaborate on the new evidence, but said that Ms Pushkar was killed by poison that was either given orally or injected.
