Politicians' behaviour has this Speaker in tears

Furniture being tossed around, often with abusive language. Documents being ripped and showered over the Speaker like confetti by angry politicians. These are scenes India has witnessed, courtesy its politicians, in different Assemblies, even in the Rajya Sabha.

Across the country, through their behaviour at work, politicians seem determined to make the point that very little should be expected of them.

In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday, the Speaker, Ishwardas Rohani, broke down, unable to deal with a battle between MLAs of the ruling BJP and the Congress.

A BJP MLA from Chattarpur said that Congressmen made objectionable remarks about her. BJP MLAs responded by walking out of the Assembly. The chaos that followed prompted the Speaker to retire to his Chamber where he wept, while some, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, tried to console him.
