Chennai: Politics, it seems, is a good post retirement plan! That's what quite a few candidates fighting elections in Tamil Nadu have demonstrated.
This is a different sort of test for this Former Vice Chancellor - Cynthia Pandian who, a few years ago headed a University in Tirunelveli, is now facing the heat and dust of an election campaign.
But this AIADMK candidate in Tuticorin is no stranger to politics. Her husband P H Pandian was the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly during the late MGR's regime.
"I've dealt with students and teachers extensively and will do well in politics," said Dr Cynthia Pandian.
On the other hand, we have a VCK candidate from Villupuram, who was once addressed as 'My Lord' in the Madras High Court. But he will now have to await the people's verdict!
"Having been a lawyer and then a judge, I can feel the pulse of people," said Justice Swamidurai.
Also after sanctioning many loans, a retired top bank official is now banking on the interest of the people of Kancheepuram - he is yet another candidate in this list.
