Congress president Sonia Gandhi's Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh got a big boost ahead of the 2014 national elections, with the government today clearing two universities there, including India's first all-women university.
The cabinet has cleared the setting up of the Indira Gandhi Women's National University at a cost of Rs 500 crore. A Bill to set up the university will be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament.
An aviation academy in Rae Bareli will also be turned into a full-fledged university.
The Indira Gandhi aviation academy, which will be renamed as Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University, is tipped to earn revenue of Rs 113 crore initially.
