Poonch Brigadier Accused of Misconduct with Jawans Resigns

New Delhi: A Brigadier in Poonch, who had been accused of sexual misconduct with jawans, has resigned.

Though the army had ordered an inquiry into the matter, the charges have been difficult to prove.

Earlier, the Brigadier had been asked to proceed on leave pending inquiry, sources had told NDTV.

The Brigadier, commanding the brigade at the Line of Control with Pakistan, had assumed command around four months ago. This brigade, with a large area of responsibility, is crucial to India's defences.

But it has been in the news for all the wrong reasons for the past 18 months. An Indian soldier was beheaded in the same area last year.

There have been several ceasefire violations in this sector for the past two years.
