New Delhi:
A senior citizen under intensive care at Delhi's Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital passed away on Saturday, after her life support system collapsed due to a power failure.
Mrs Gaur would have celebrated her 75th birthday on Sunday. But the power cut lasted for over 45 minutes, and the doctors couldn't revive despite their best efforts.
The family has decided to sue the hospital with criminal negligence.
According to Raj Mangal, the deceased's son-in-law, the doctors, in a bid to save her, resorted to using light from their cellphones to manually revive her.
He also said that back up generators didn't kick in when the power collapsed, plunging the entire ICU and CCU wings into darkness and shutting off important life support machines.
The family isn't blaming the doctors, but says while the doctors were doing their best the hospital is responsible for the death by neglecting to maintain its back up systems.
