Congress president Sonia Gandhi is on a three-day tour of her constituency, Rae Bareli, in peak summer and on Day 1, she faced more heat than that from a blazing sun.

Sonia's motorcade was stopped en route to Dalmau by angry locals protesting against power cuts. It has been an exceptionally warm summer and the people of Uttar Pradesh have been facing hours of power cuts. Rae Bareli has been experiencing 10-hour power cuts every day. The state faces a big power deficit of 1351 million units.

Sonia met the protesters and heard out their grievances.

The Congress president is expected to inaugurate a slew of development programmes in her constituency in these three days. She began by inaugurating the newly constructed building of a sub-post office  and launched BSNL's Wi-Max services at Dalmau.

On the second day, Mrs Gandhi will meet party workers and people.

On the third and final day, she would meet people at ITI guest house and undertake surprise visit before leaving for Delhi.
