Prashant Bhushan on Police Crackdown Against Yogendra Yadav: Highlights

New Delhi: Swaraj Abhiyan leader Prashant Bhushan is addressing a press conference on police action against Yogendra Yadav, who has been arrested along with 90 others after being detained from a farmer protest last night.

Here are the highlights:
 

• We had the permission to hold the rally yesterday
• We had planned to take out a symbolic march to Race Course club for the farmers who had to resort to suicide because of government's policies
• But then the police arrived and told us that there is no permission for the rally
• Yogendra Yadav tried to explain to the policemen that they are protsting peacefully, and not obstructing the traffic
• But he was detained along with many others. We don;t know how many of our supporters have been detained.
• The women protesters were taken to a Gurudwara and kept there, but Yogendra Yadav and others were taken to the police station
• I came to the police station and asked the police why they have been detained. But they did not tell me any reason.
• I was not allowed to meet Yogendra Yadav and others despite requests for four hours outside the police station
• Even the Supreme Court has said that people should not be detained or arrest without any reason
• But we were not given any reason as to why they have been detained
• And they were arrested in the morning
• We will file a petition in High Court against police action
