An explosion was heard near the PVR multiplex in northwest Delhi's Prashant Vihar area around 11.48 am today. Police and fire engines have reached the spot and a team from the Special Cell of Delhi Police is on its way. Further details are awaited.
This comes a month after a blast near the CRPF school in Prashant Vihar. The school's wall was damaged in the explosion, but no casualties were reported. Today's explosion occurred near a park's boundary wall and investigators noticed a white powder-like substance at the spot. A similar powdery substance was found at the site of the school blast.
Police have cordoned off the area and said the driver of a three-wheeler parked nearby has suffered minor injuries.
"We received a call regarding a blast in Prashant Vihar area at 11.48 am. We rushed four fire tenders on the spot. Our teams are following rest of the details," an official of Delhi Fire Services said.
A bomb detection team and a dog squad have also reached the spot.
Police sources told news agency PTI that while the blast is similar to the school blast, it is too early to draw a connection. "This was a very low-intensity blast that occurred opposite a sweet shop. We cannot link them right now," the source said.
