New Delhi:
The Congress on Tuesday appointed Pratap Singh Bajwa as the new chief of its Punjab unit.
Mr Bajwa, Member of Parliament (MP) from Gurdaspur, has replaced Amarinder Singh, Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said.
Mr Singh, a former chief minister, was under a cloud after the Congress failed to dislodge the Akali Dal in the January 2012 elections and it came to power. The Congress recently lost the Moga by-poll, held after its sitting legislator resigned and joined the Akali Dal.
In a related development, Congress MP Harish Choudhary has been appointed a national secretary of the All India Congress Committee and given charge of party affairs in Punjab. Mr Choudhary is an MP from Rajasthan's Barmer.
