Prepartion for Games to be independently monitored: Fennel

New Delhi: Preparation for the Commonwealth Games will be independently monitored. A high-level technical panel will review the progress of the work each month.

Addressing a news conference on the preparedness of the Games in New Delhi on Monday, Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennel  said that the new body would comprise of a chairman, other members who will be experts in their respective fields. They will assist and aid in all areas that need to be delivered and will give a monthly report.

It will start work in January and will then present its findings to a media conference to ensure that it is operating in an open manner to all concerned. The new panel will also have power to get in outside experts.

Fennell said, "Sports Authority of India, DDA, CPWD made presentations, but we will monitor the timeline very carefully and ensure delivery on time."

However, he also said that the preparation for the Commonwealth Games 2009 is on track.

He said that he had discussed a lot of things at today's meet. He appreciated Kalmadi for action that followed after the writing of letter by him.

Commenting on the security preparedness, Commonwealth Games Federation chief said security for the Games was very high on priority list. Good progress was being made on security for 2010 Games, he added.

Commonwealth organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi also spoke on the occasion. He said preparation for Games is on track. "We are going to move forward at a fast pace," he added.

Kalmadi also thanked the Prime Minister for assuring full support.
