New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday greeted Nicaragua on its Independence Day which is being celebrated on Tuesday.

In a message to Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega Saavedra, President Mukherjee said: "I have great pleasure in extending to you and to the Government and people of Nicaragua warm greetings and felicitations on the occasion of your Independence Day."

"India and Nicaragua have a history of friendship and cooperation. Our bilateral relations are also being strengthened under the India-SICA dialogue to which India attaches great importance," the president said.

"I am confident that the friendly ties between our two countries will receive further impetus in the years to come."

"I avail of this opportunity to convey to Mr Saavedra, my best wishes for your personal well-being and for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Nicaragua," the president added.
