President Pranab Mukherjee today greeted people on the eve of Raksha Bandhan, saying the festival underlines the need for enhancing efforts for the welfare of women and a duty for men to ensure their safety and security in society.
In his message, the President said, "The thread of Rakhi binds sisters and brothers in an inseparable bond of love and trust.
"This festival underlines the need for enhancing efforts for the welfare of women and for all men to do their utmost to ensure the safety and security of women in society."
He expressed hope that people take a pledge to dedicate ourselves "to the well-being of the women of India, particularly the girl child".
