New Delhi: On his 72nd birthday, President Ram Nath Kovind received wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders.
"Birthday wishes to Rashtrapati ji. May Almighty bless him with a long and healthy life devoted to the service of our nation" PM Modi wrote on Twitter, while also praising how the President "has endeared himself to the people of India through his simple and compassionate nature."
PM Modi also said that he found President Kovind to be sensitive towards the aspirations of Indians, hailing his concern for the poor and marginalised.
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu met Ram Nath Kovind on his birthday, presenting him with a bouquet of flowers.
Ram Nath Kovind was born on October 1, 1945 in the Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
On his birthday, President Kovind inaugurated the new international airport at Shirdi, and flagged off the first flight from the airport that was going to Mumbai.
Finance minister Arun Jaitley also took to Twitter to wish the President, wishing for him to "be blessed with a long, healthy and successful life."
Other leaders who wished him included Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, textiles and information and broadcasting minister Smriti Irani and sports minister Rajyavardhan Rathore.
Kiren Rijiju and Chhattisgarh chief minister Dr Raman Singh also wished the President.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee also wished President Kovind on Twitter.
