New Delhi:
As the Prime Minister firefights to check prices, the four Left parties have stepped up pressure. Senior leaders of the left are organising a countrywide jail bharo andolan against price rise.
In Delhi, the protests are led by CPM general secretary Prakash Karat and CPI leaders A B Bardhan and D Raja on Parliament Street.
Protests are also taking place in Maharashtra, Punjab and Bihar. While Sitaram Yechury is leading the protests in Maharashtra, Nilotpal Basu is in Punjab leading the jail bharo.
In Patna, CPM leader Brinda Karat led the protest march. Over 500 activists of Left parties including CPM leaders Brinda Karat and Atul Kumar Anjan courted arrest, blocking the city's busy dakbungalow roundabout.
In Thiruvananthapuram, lakhs of workers of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala are taking part in anti-price agitation across state.
