Prime Accused in West Bengal Nun Rape Case Arrested from Sealdah Station

The rape of the 72-year-old nun had sparked demonstrations at a number of places, such as this peace march in Allahabad.

Kolkata: The two prime accused in the rape of a septuagenarian nun at Ranaghat in Nadia district of West Bengal have been arrested by the CID from Sealdah station, a senior official of the investigating agency said in Kolkata on Friday.

"We have arrested Milan Kumar Sarkar and Wahidul Islam from Sealdah station (Main) last night," the official said.

"Acting on a tip-off, we had laid a trap and when the duo arrived at the station, we arrested them," the official said adding, "both are Bangladeshi nationals and they don't have any valid passport or document."

The Sister Superior of a Convent School was allegedly raped by dacoits at Ranaghat in Nadia district on March 14.

With the arrest of these two, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to five.

Earlier one person was arrested from Mumbai and two others were nabbed from West Bengal.

The investigation into the involvement of the arrested duo was on, the official said.

Apart from allegedly brutalising the nun, the criminals had also allegedly looted Rs 12 lakh in cash from the convent's coffer.
