New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today sanctioned an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees to the families of those killed in a boat tragedy at Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Manmohan Singh condoled the loss of lives in the boat tragedy and announced the relief from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, according to a statement in Delhi.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi also expressed their condolences over the tragedy.
Earlier, Kanchipuram MP, P Viswanathan met the Prime Minister seeking additional assistance to the victim families.
"I have also urged him to extend assistance for admitting the injured in renowned hospitals like the AIIMS," he said.
At least 21 persons died when the tourist boat carrying 51 tourists capsized between Ross Island and North Bay near Port Blair yesterday.
